WTTC and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) are presenting an Open Letter to Heads of State and Government worldwide, highlighting the importance of Travel & Tourism, and asking them to accept this letter in acknowledgement of the relevance of Travel & Tourism in facing today's global challenges. Quotations and images of Heads of State and Government - taken while being presented with the Open Letter - are being used to build a "Golden Book" of Travel & Tourism and showcase their commitment to promoting Travel & Tourism to the world community as a means of sustainable development. The first edition of the "Golden Book" was launched on May 17th during the WTTC inaugural regional Summit of the Americas in Mexico by President Felipe Calderón of Mexico.
The Campaign has already received the support of the Heads of State and Government from 53 countries.
National Tourism Organisations and other official bodies who are interested in having their Head of State or Government join the campaign should contact their normal UNWTO representative or WTTC for more information.
UNWTO is a specialised agency of the United Nations and a leading international organisation in the field of tourism, with a membership consisting centrally of 154 member sovereign states. UNWTO and WTTC are committed to working together to improve the understanding of the importance of Travel & Tourism to the social and economic development of the world community.
