Launched in February 2000, the purpose of India Initiative is to unite key players from the industry to speak with a single global voice. Under the patronage of P.R.S. Oberoi, with the commitment and experience of Yogesh Chandra as Secretary General, and the active support of twenty-three industry leaders, the India Initiative has formulated a coherent and cohesive strategic policy for the region.
Since 1 January 2004, the WTTC India Initiative has been financially autonomous from WTTC Headquarters, while maintaining close ties with the London office to ensure that the Initiative runs in parallel with the direction of WTTC's global programmes. With the fantastic support of the India Initiative Members it was possible to host an highly successful Summit New Delhi in 2005.
The current Chairperson of the Initiative is Radha Bhatia, Chairperson, Bird Group. The immediate past Chairman is Nakul Anand, Divisional Chief Executive of ITC Limited.
