Valuing Nature: Mapping the Ocean's Wealth
New data provided by The Nature Conservancy reveals the economic value to the Travel & Tourism sector of coral reefs stands at a staggering $36 billion a year. Coral reefs not only attract tourists interested in scuba diving, snorkelling and boat trips, they also protect beaches from erosion and provide the tourist appeal of beautiful sandy beaches and iconic views. In this 1-hour webinar, Dr. Mark Spalding, Senior Marine Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, will present the methodology behind the innovative research, provide an economic argument for other reasons to value nature and discuss what tourism can do for nature.
Results of the Global Terrorism Index 2016
The first web seminar from the "Just the Facts" series was produced in partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). Daniel Hyslop, Research Director of the IEP, presents the key findings from the Global Terrorism Index 2016. The Global Terrorism Index is the world’s leading metric for policymakers, assisting in their efforts to track, understand and measure the impact and underlying drivers of terrorism. This year's report explores the economic impact of terrorism on global and national economies, and provides a comprehensive overview of the current terrorist threat, exploring the impact of ISIS, Boko Haram and other non-state terrorist organisations.
