WTTC is renowned for the depth and breadth of its research. For the last 25 years we have spearheaded the global analysis of the economic importance of Travel & Tourism - its direct, indirect, and induced impact on jobs, GDP, trade, and investment on a global scale, as well as in 185 countries and 25 economic regions.
Our research programme, in partnership with Oxford Economics, forms the backbone of our mission and is unrivalled in the sector. Around the world, our research is considered to be the leading source of accurate figures that unquestionably affirm the significance of the Travel & Tourism sector.
Why conduct research?
From the outset, our Members realised that in order to persuade governments and policy makers to take Travel & Tourism seriously, we would need to present hard economic facts. Measuring the size and growth of Travel & Tourism and understanding its fundamental contribution to society, therefore, plays a vital part in underpinning WTTC’s work.
What research does WTTC carry out?
To say our research programme into Travel & Tourism is the most insightful and extensive worldwide is no exaggeration. Each year we produce reports covering the economic contribution of our sector in 185 countries, 25 economic regions, and the world as a whole. We also benchmark Travel & Tourism against other sectors, and analyse issues such as the impact of visa facilitation on jobs in certain countries or regions, or the tax burden on Travel & Tourism in specific markets.
