Tim Zagat is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of Zagat Survey, the world’s original provider of consumer survey-based dining, travel and leisure information. Launched in 1979 as a hobby by Tim and his wife, Nina, the Survey became so popular that it rapidly developed into a fulltime publishing enterprise. Following their initial success in New York City, the Zagats expanded their concept in the mid 1980s to cover restaurants in other markets, later adding hotels, nightlife, movies, golf, shopping and a range of other entertainment resources. In 2000, the Zagats were recognised as Entrepreneurs of the Year by Ernst & Young. They were inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food & Beverage (1994), New York University’s Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame (2001), the Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor (2003) and the Culinary Institute of America Hall of Fame (2005). They also received the Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award (2003) and the Travel Weekly Lifetime Achievement Award (2009).
