Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego Cortés was born on 11 May 1968. She graduated in Law from the University of the Balearic Islands and has a Master’s degree in real estate & construction laws. She began her political career at the Balearic Islands where, among others, held the position of vice president in the Instituto Balear de la Vivienda (IBAVI). Between 2007 and 2011 she was an advisor in urban planning for the Regional Minister of Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning of the Community of Madrid. Additionally, she served as Town Counsellor of Planning and Housing in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid).
In the elections of November 2011, she was elected national representative for the House of Representatives for the constituency of Balearic Islands, a responsibility she could not continue after being appointed Secretary of State for Tourism by the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, and the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria.
