Simón Pedro Barceló Vadell was born in Palma de Mallorca in 1966 (Balearic Islands/Spain), is married and has three children. He has obtained his Law Degree from the University of the Balearic Islands.
After being a Senator for Mallorca from 1989 and 1993, he began working in his family’s company Barceló Group in 1993. Currently, he is Co-President of the Board that manages the family’s group of businesses.
Simón Pedro Barceló has been President of Exceltur (a lobby for tourism excellence) and member of the board of First Choice Holidays – British Touroperator.
Between November 2008 and November 2010 he was President of the Spanish Family Business Institute.
Since September 2014 he is President of the Balearic Agrupación de Cadenas Hoteleras (a local Hotel Chain Association).
Since October 2014 he is independent Member of the Board of Directors of Aena (Spanish Airports Authority)
Since November 2014 he is Treasurer of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce.
Amongst the awards he has obtained, there are: the “Entrepreneur of the Year 2000” given by Ernst & Young, IESE Business School, La Caixa and Cinco Días; and “Best Manager” given by the Spanish magazine Actualidad Económica and the consultant company AT Kearney
In April 2007 BARCELÓ CORPORACIÓN EMPRESARIAL, S.A. was the winner of the 11th edition of the Awards Premios Príncipe Felipe given for Business Excellence - “Business Competitiveness – Large Corporations”.
