Phillip Jones joined the Dallas CVB as President and CEO in 2003, moving from Louisiana, where he served as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. In fiscal year 2013-14, the Dallas CVB booked a record number of room nights for future years, including 32 citywide meetings. Dallas is now the #1 visitor destination in the state, the #6 convention city nationwide and hosted 23.6 million visitors in 2013, resulting in $4 billion in direct economic impact. Additional significant accomplishments during Jones’ tenure include the development of a convention center hotel, the creation of the state’s first Tourism Public Improvement District, and the launch of the “Big Things Happen Here” branding initiative. He also led the creation of the Dallas Sports Commission and the first Diversity and Inclusion department within a DMO nationwide. An avid triathlete, Jones completed Ironman competitions in France, Arizona, California, Florida, Germany, Idaho, Texas, Utah, Canada and Australia and recently completed the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
