H.E. Teo has been at the forefront of Philippine tourism spanning almost entirely her professional career of nearly three decades. She has carved out a name for herself promoting the Philippines as a top international tourist destination.
A proactive industry player, her initiatives were largely directed towards advancing the Philippine tourism industry as manifested in her engagements in various capacities with many different travel and tourism programs initiated by both government and the private sectors.
She has also actively devoted her time to regional, national and international associations earning the respect and trust of her peers and electing her to manifold positions on numerous occasions.
Her pioneering efforts to promote Davao City as a major tourist destination were patently recognized by the city’s tourism stakeholders when she was elected President of Davao Association of Tour Operators (DATO). And when the first Tourism Congress of the Philippines was called to convene, she was likewise elected Secretary.
She traces her illustrious professional career in the travel and tourism industry to her stint as one of the first Filipinas to become a flight stewardess. At a time when this was still considered an ‘unconventional’ job for women, she broke society barriers and gender stereotypes. She eventually ventured in to the travel and tour business by putting up her own company, the Mt. Apo Travels and Tours serving as its President and CEO from 1994 until she divested herself of any involvement in the company in June 2016 following her acceptance to the personal invitation of President Rodrigo Duterte for her to lead the Department of Tourism.
Just recently, she launched the Intramuros Rehabilitation Project that will finally reinvigorate the heart of Old Manila as a historical gem and premiere tourist destination.
